Birds
are now the fourth most popular pet in the United States, behind dogs, cats and freshwater fish. According to a 2007-2008 National Pet Owners Survey, more than six million people in the country own a pet bird. There are many bird clubs and bird societies around the world, including the National Audubon Society of America, which has over 500,000 members. The pet industry, as a whole, is growing with 63 percent of households owning a pet of some kind.
